There is a famous quote by Laura Teresa Marquez. “Arrogance and rudeness are training wheels on the bicycle of life—for weak people who cannot keep their balance without them.” I think arrogance and fraud would be the perfect adjectives to define the character of the politician, head of AAP and former chief minister who is ironically out on bail. Anna Andolan, which was started as an anti-corruption movement and demand for the Lokpal bill back in 2011-2012, Arvind Kejriwal showed an opportunity and formed a political party, AAP, despite him repeatedly saying during the protest that he would never start a political party. People have supported him wholeheartedly as he gave people hope to establish a political party that stands for merit and truth. Many of them have left their careers and joined AAP in the hope of changing Indian politics for good.
Little did we know that his main agenda was to grab the power and money. His drama started instantly after assuming office, and his first tenure lasts only for 49 days. In 2020, the people of Delhi gave him the biggest mandate ever seen in the history of Delhi in recent times, with 67 seats won by AAP out of 70. This was fueled by his (fake) promise of making Delhi like Singapore and London, giving free electricity and free water, thus making pivotal movements of giving freebees, which were then adapted by all political parties.
If a politician is willing, he can change the destiny and future of a state with this kind of mandate; just take a look at Yogi Adityanath’s tenure as CM and the wonders he has done in UP, but instead of working, he was focused on finding new issues to attack PM Modi and the LG of Delhi to hide his incapabilities. In a nutshell, no significant work was done in 2015-2020. They say that an educated man does a fraud with so much effectiveness that it will be beyond a common man’s imagination.
Arvind Kejriwal is a smart politician, and he again focused on his vote bank, people from Juggi Basti and Muslims. He opts for the promotion of Mohalla clinics, “world-class” government schools and hospitals, and more importantly, he is giving lucrative prices to print and TV media for this promotion. BJP’s Delhi state unit was a mess at that time and could not consolidate or create a narrative against Kejriwal. AAP secured once again a massive 62 seats, and BJP was limited to 8 seats.
As the common man’s suffering continued, COVID-19 came just after the election, and Kejriwal’s famous Delhi health model went to the ventilator. His claims of Maholla clinics and hospitals were fake; there were no facilities provided in those clinics. There was a massive crisis of oxygen bottles during the second wave of COVID-19, and people were left to their own devices; there was no support from government machineries. Very little development that was done on infrastructure between 2020 and 2025 was because of the central government, which created the Bharat Mandapam, the Central Vista building, and national highways and bridges.
He has caused so much distress to the common man in the national capital that people were actually fed up with his incapabilities. Here are some highlights.
- Delhi used to be a budget surplus state because of its small size and efficient management of money, but Kejriwal has done what no one could have thought; he made Delhi a budget-deficient state. It really needs a special talent to achieve this.
- There was a massive water crisis during the summer in the last 2-3 years in Delhi, and people were actually drinking very unhygienic water. The truck mafia was out of control, and they were charging up to 5 times the money for water. The water quality of tap water is so bad in some places that you cannot drink that, while Kejriwal claims that he has covered 90% of Delhi with tap water.
- In 12 years, Kejriwal promised multiple times to clean up the Yamuna River but failed to do so. The situation is now worsened in Yamuna, and its water is poisonous. People of Bihar take a dip in this river during Chhath-Puja and risk their lives.
- How can we forget the polluted air of Delhi? He did very little to improve the air quality of Delhi. First, they said that because of Parali in Punjab, air quality is bad in Delhi. They won Punjab and formed a government, then they were told that now it’s because of Haryana. On average, the air quality in Delhi in winter is more than 200, which is hazardous. The government is playing with the lives of people here; no one should be forced to live in such bad air quality.
- Kejriwal floated his infamous liquor scheme that has allegedly allowed him to get more money from the distributors and used all this illegal money in the Goa assembly election. He even went to jail for this, and currently he is out on bail, with strict conditions that prevent him from signing any files.
- Kejriwal has slowly and gradually started to build his residence, which is known as “shish mahal” because of its grandeur. Here are some fascinating details: Main and sheer curtain: Rs 96 lakh; kitchen equipment: Rs 39 lakh; TV console: Rs 20.34 lakh; treadmill and gym equipment: Rs 18.52 lakh; silk carpets: Rs 16.27 lakh; minibar: Rs 4.80 lakh.
- swati Maliwal was an old friend and political colleague of Kejriwal; he also made her MP from Rajya Sabha. Same Kejriwal and his aide Bibhav Kumar have assaulted Swati Maliwal in the CM residence. AAP has defended Bibhav and tried to corner Swati Maliwal, leading to a fallout between them.
All these were piling up, and the BJP also got his state unit straightened out before elections. There was great help from RSS Swayamsevaks, BJP local Karyakartas, Sehzad Poonawala, Kapil Mishra, and Parvesh Varma, who did relentless campaigning and exposed the lies of Arvind Kejriwal. Finally, the people of Delhi have woken up to reality and defeated the reign of terror of 12 years. Kejriwal’s tenure will be remembered as a black history in the Delhi chapter. At the time of writing this article, BJP has managed to win 48 seats out of 70 and is poised to form the government. We sincerely hope that they will work on a war footing to make Delhi the deserving and liveable capital of India.
