Recently, the Minister of Communications, Ashwini Vaishnaw, launched the Curtain Raiser of the World Telecom Standardization Assembly Delhi 2024 (WTSA 2024), setting the stage for a significant event in the global telecommunications sphere.

As the specialized agency of the United Nations for telecom/ICT, the ITU has a rich history dating back to 1865, making it the oldest agency in the UN family.
Its core functions include providing international connectivity in communication networks, allocating global radio spectrum and satellite orbits, developing technical standards, and improving access to digital technologies.
With 193 Member States and more than 1000 companies, universities, and international and regional organizations, the ITU operates from its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.

World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly, held every four years since 2000, defines the next period of study for ITU-T and plays a crucial role in shaping the global agenda for standardization of telecom and ICTs.
This year, India has the honor of hosting WTSA 2024 in New Delhi from 15th to 24th October.
